Is a fantastic winter success

During the lay day at the Nationals I had a few beers. Those of you who where there I sure you will remember more than me. Anyway I said that Draycote Sailing Club would be holding a P&B Fireball Winter Series and that everyone should come and it would be fun. I then forgot about the idea, until the Draycote Fireball Open when Team P & B asked me when the Series Started. To cut a long story short we came up with a series. It started in November and ended in March, consisting of eight Sundays on club courses with two long races per day.

The conditions were fantastic with moderate to strong winds, which meant we were blasting every weekend without fail. With both races taking place each Sunday with no abandonment’s and eight to count.

The competition was hot with a core of visiting boats and home talent battling for honours every weekend. The courses were interesting, as not only did the visiting boats not know where the marks were, also on occasions the same applied to the home fleet. I am therefore considering triangle courses for next year as I cant stand the ear bashing I got in the bar about the courses this year.

As the series progressed the best Sunday produced twenty-one boats racing in moderate to strong winds, where local talent Badass Badham and Mike Deano with Vince Horey and Dave Wade plus other challengers such as Sam Metham enjoyed championship racing conditions.

The series went down to the final weekend in March with Dave Wade and Richard Wagstaff unbeatable in First position leaving, Mike Deane and Paul Disney yet again battling with old rivals Pete Badham and JR for Second and Third place. Again Deano won through in two second allowing Sam Metham and Richard Anderton to move into third overall.

I hope everyone who took part enjoyed themselves and thanks to our sponsors P&B Racing for the prizes, which were well received by the winners.

So if you want something to do every other weekend during the next Winter then come on down and see us next year at Draycote sailing club in prep for the Worlds In Canada. Looking forward to seeing you all Jez white.
