Inaugural International Match Race at Porto Montenegro Yacht Club

by Porto Montenegro 5 Jul 2012 15:38 BST 28 June - 1 July 2012

Porto Montenegro Yacht Club played host to its inaugural International Match Race last weekend (June 28 - July 1 2012) where they welcomed the top European yacht clubs to take part in this invitation only event.

The race weekend took place against the scenic backdrop of the UNESCO World Heritage Bay of Kotor and yacht clubs including Gstaad Yacht Club, Royal Southampton Yacht Club, Team SKYVER, New Zeeland Yacht Club and Bayerischer Yacht Club battled it out against each other in various heats and classes over the three days. Special BLU 26 boats were drafted in for all the teams to use and conditions throughout were excellent with good thermal winds from 7 to 15 kts.

The final results saw Bayerischer Yacht Club taking home the Inter Club Match Race Silver Cup with World Champion and 2012 Olympic hopeful, Julian Autenrieth leading the team to victory. This was closely followed by Team SKYVER in second place and Porto Montenegro Yacht Club in third.

Porto Montenegro's Match Race was the perfect opportunity for the teams to soak up the fun yet competitive atmosphere at the event which is sure to become a fixed feature in the yachting calendar for years to come. The Porto Montenegro Yacht Club was established in 2010 and is the hub of all sailing activities in the marina.
