Contender Travellers Round 5 at Pevensey Bay Sailing Club

by Stuart Hudson 23 May 2012 14:53 BST 19-20 May 2012

19 boats gathered at PBSC for the open on 19th and 20th May. Day 1 saw a nice F2-3 from the West and a lovely day's sailing.

It was Mike Murley who showed superior boat speed and finished the day with 2 firsts and a third. Tom Hooton also showed great pace after a slow start and clocked a 1st and a 2nd. Stuart Jones finished with a consistent 2, 2, 4 and Dan Taylor with a 3, 4, and 5.

We were in by 4 pm and there seemed little else to do but tuck into the "special" keg of beer at the bar and wait for the curry – forecast the next day was for wind so most helped themselves to two generous helpings and Tom and Dan made a small detour to the chippy for good measure. Needless to say the keg ran dry and a good time was had by all.

Sunday dawned more overcast and windy from the North. Jones showed good pace off the line in these conditions and though pressed at times by various people was able to control the situation each time and register 3 firsts for the day. These were great sailing conditions for Contender with 20 and maybe 25 knot gusts at times with moderate swell giving awesome surfing conditions.

Stuart Hudson, Carl Tagoe and Peter Barr all gained a second place finish but weren't as consistent as Dan Taylor with a 3, 3, 5 for the day giving him the 2nd overall. Murley struggled initially in the wind but finished 4th in the last to save 3rd overall.

Many thanks to Pevensey Bay S.C for a well run event and great sailing especially those guys who helped us up that beach.
