Ger Owens and Scott Flanigan commenced their campaign today for Olympic qualification at the 470 World Championships in Barcelona.
Racing was postponed for most of the day as winds were very light but late afternoon saw all fleets finishing one race each and Owens and Flanigan finished in 5th place giving them a good start to their qualifying event.
There are 7 nation places left at the World Championships and this is the final qualifying event.
Three of the Providence Resources Irish sailing teams, Peter O’Leary & David Burrows (Star), Ryan Seaton & Matt McGovern (49er) and Annalise Murphy (Laser Radial) qualified in Perth in December 2011. Last week James Espey qualified in the Laser class at the World Championships in Germany.
Next week Ross Hamilton will commence his qualifying process at the Finn World Championships and Annalise Murphy will be competing at the Laser World Championships in Germany.
