The inaugural Edinburgh Cup one day series for Hunter 707s was sailed on the Firth of Forth on 28th April.

Hosted by Port Edgar Yacht Club and sponsored by Omnicare Pharmacy, this early series was a day of non-stop racing attracting 10 boats.

Five races were sailed in cold but sunny weather and north easterly winds varying from Force 3 to 4. Sea state was moderate and courses windward leeward and set to the east of the Forth Rail Bridge, off Inverkeithing.

Visitor, Outlaw (David Boatman, Sunderland) with Blue Funk,(Neil McLure, Dalgety Bay) 2nd and Royal Forth's D Gorman and D Northridge 3rd in Jetstream.

The 2nd Race saw Cacciatore (Sarah Robertson, RFYC) claim line honours, beating Outlaw by 1 minute while a minute later, Jetstream logged another 3rd and followed that up seizing a win in Race 3.

This was a series with everything to play for.

Outlaw, however, came back strongly in Race 4 with another win, while Cacciatore and Jetstream were on his tail.

Race 5, last in the series and the windiest, looked to be the decider for one of the 3 leaders but Blue Funk (Neil McLure) nipped smartly into first place to separate them.

This was a well fought series with no room for any mistakes and a great start to the Forth season. Since the conscious decision by Port Edgar and Royal Forth YC to adopt the 707's and encourage class racing, the class has grown and is attracting more people into competitive sailing.
