Royal Southampton Yacht Club Frostbite Series - Race 5

Victory for Offbeat, Hooligan and Roo

The fifth and penultimate race of the Royal Southampton Yacht Club’s Frostbite series was held on Sunday 27th February in generally sunny conditions with an occasional snow shower and cold NNE breeze averaging 17 knots, generally gusting up to 25 knots with a peak of 32 knots an hour into the racing. The Race Management Team set the Committee Boat off the Fawley shore.

Class 1, saw three boats over the line at the start, Njos and Alice did not return, while Malice did return and subsequently made a navigation error and retired after finishing. Jack Pringle’s IMX40 Mankie took line honours. Victory on corrected time by 42 seconds went to Richomme Yoann’s Mumm 30 Offbeat, with Mankie second and third Paul Harding’s First 31.7 Electron. Overall after five races with one race to go, Mike Henning’s Mumm 36 Alice leads by 10 points from both Electron and Ed Holton’s Shades of Blue II.

Class 2 saw Steve Sault’s Sigma 33 Hooligan take line honours and victory on corrected time by 51 seconds from Bernard Fyans’ Mustang 30 Erik the Red. Third was Ian Townend and John Cooper’s Hunter 707 Tigerfeet. Overall after five races with one race to go, Hooligan and Tiger Feet are equal on 9 points, with Richard Walker’s Micro Gem Urchin II on 15 points.

In the Multihull Class, first to finish and first on corrected time by 107 seconds, was Ben Goodland’s Raider 30 Roo, from George Burn’s Dragonfly 920 Extreme Force X with third Simon Forbes’ Dragonfly 800 Scooby III. Overall after five races with one race to go Scooby III leads by one point from Roo with Force X third.

Cowes Week Day 6

XOD Captain's Cup at Cowes Week day 5
The promised easterly kicks in just in time After a day off for no wind and a wonderful party sponsored by Hiscox and James Hallam insurers, quite a few of the fleet were grateful for a delay today. The short series has now concluded, with nine of the 12 scheduled races completed Today dawned bright and sunny with a northerly breeze that faded during the morning as the land heated up, but a stable sea breeze failed to materialise, forcing racing for all classes to be abandoned. XOD Captain's Cup at Cowes Week day 3
Astralita takes a third consecutive victory The XOD fleet held back from the line until the final 30 seconds, but a few pulled the trigger early and were forced to bear away along the line to burn time. Even then two boats were called OCS, only one of which returned. Posted on 29 Jul 2024
