I love the smell of Gaboon Ply in the morning...

The auto-cut wood arrives for the first UK 3.7 amateur builds © UK Farr 3.7 Class

"It's sad really, but even the smell was great as the wood was unwrapped. A mix of Cedar and the Gaboon ply, mmm..." the words of Dave Barker. He truly has the 3.7 bug!

Dave Barker has just received his auto-cut wood to start the first amateur 3.7 build in the UK. "One evenings work to cut the tabs with a Stanley knife and a quick sand of the edges and we're ready for the next step… starting the glueing!" Dave has already made his building jig and is now forging ahead with the rest of his build.

There are two other amateur boats being built, one in Norfolk and the other in Oxfordshire, both by teenagers.

For those not wishing to build their own boats Butler Boats are about to start the building of a demo boat. Which will be available soon for test sails. They are working with the class to create an off the shelf 3.7. It's great news for the class that a well established and well respected boat builder has chosen to get behind the 3.7.
