Brewin Dolphin expands its sailing event sponsorship portfolio with the Royal Southern Yacht Club Anniversary Regatta and the Brewin Dolphin British Open Metre Regatta in 2012

The Royal Southern Yacht Club is delighted to announce that, as part of a wider programme of sailing sponsorships, Brewin Dolphin, the UK’s leading independent investment management company, will be headlining two of the Club's major regatta events being held during 2012; the 175 Anniversary Regatta sponsored by Brewin Dolphin and the Brewin Dolphin British Open Metre Regatta.

In this milestone year that marks both the Royal Southern's 175th Anniversary and Brewin Dolphin's 250th Anniversary, a highlight in the Club's racing calendar will be the 16-day 175 Anniversary Regatta taking place in late May/June. Some 33 classes and 500 sailors are expected to descend on the Hamble-based Club for this unique festival of sailing. In addition to Brewin Dolphin's sponsorship, the 175 Anniversary Regatta is also supported by Mount Gay Rum, Piper-Heidsieck Champagne, Gaastra and Swarovski Optik.

The 175 Anniversary Regatta, sponsored by Brewin Dolphin, Notice of Races is now online.

The Brewin Dolphin British Open Metre Regatta is also being organised and hosted by the Royal Southern Yacht Club between 27th - 29th June 2012.

This Regatta will include six races over three days for fleets drawn from 12 Metre, 8 Metre and 6 Metre classes. The Royal Southern Yacht Club is expecting some 20 yachts across the three classes, promising close competition and considerable spectacle for VIP guests, spectators and the media alike.

First built in 1907, the 12 Metre class, designed to the newly created 12 Metre Rule, was used in the Olympic Games of 1908, 1912 and 1920, but is probably best known for its racing prowess in the America’s Cup challenges between 1958 and 1987. Both the 6 Metre and 8 Metre classes were also Olympic classes in the 1920s.
