The 3rd round of the British Championships was held on 3rd & 4th March with 30 pilots from all over the the country attending. Saturday started very bright and sunny but very little wind but as the morning progressed the wind increased and the general briefing held at 0930 with racing starting at 1000.

The course was set so that a tack had to be made in the middle of the downwind leg. This produced some good close racing in all three Classes.

The mini yachts course was a triangle with the rolling start it was a technique to be learnt by Pilots who had never raced a mini yachts before. There was good close racing and the spectators were enjoying the spectacle.

The wind changed direction for the third and forth races coming directly from the west, this made the racing a straight drag race up and down the beach with very high speeds achieved.

Mike Young the sailing Master achieved 4 races per class having had some very good racing on a near perfect beach.

Sunday morning and the rain had arrived as forecast. The beach was covered with standing water and at a pilots meeting it was decided to cancel racing for the day.

Brean LYC have purchased two new Seagull 'Silence' Mini Yachts and we put one of them in the mini yacht races with Ron Frewin and Niel Penhall. It performed above all expectations and won all three races it entered.
