£1000 prize money for The Dash at Blackpool and Fleetwood YC

Blackpool and Fleetwood Yacht Club have announced they are to host a large offshore and keelboat regatta to be held on the weekend of 4th–7th May, the first bank holiday weekend in May. The main event ”The Dash” will be held on the 6 May, Sunday of the Bank Holiday Weekend. The event is Sponsored by the Hobin Group, who are the North West of England top Seat and Skoda dealership.

The event starts with boats arriving the week before the regatta. The Saturday will include a river safari up the River Wyre to show competitors the way up the River Wyre to B&FYC based at the start of Skippool Creek. The race will be a Dash from Fleetwood up the river to Skippool where there will be a couple of turning marks outside the club providing a fantastic sight for the sponsors and the Fylde crowd that will be at B&FYC, back down the river to the finish at Fleetwood. Coaches will transport competitors to and from the marina at Fleetwood allowing competitors to enjoy the legendary hospitality at B&FYC where the results and presentation of £1,000 cash prize to the winner.

Food and drink will be available with a band on Saturday and Sunday Night.

The course record stands at 1hr 11min 10 secs which is held by Beat and Run, an ex half tonner owned by Chris Haworth.

The Event is limited to 70 boats and a discounted rate is available at Fleetwood Marina.

The entry fee, discounted to 14th April is only £20, £35 after that date.

The race will be based on IRC and boats without a current IRC Certificate will be awarded the highest IRC TCF for that type of boat. Non listed boats will be awarded based on other handicap systems as decided by the organising club. Offshore and Cruising multihull boats will be welcome and again a TCF awarded based on MOCRA and PY numbers and allocated accordingly by the handicap committee.

Blackpool and Fleetwood Eskimo Pursuit

Eskimo Pursuit Trophy
At at Blackpool & Fleetwood YC Neil Marsden and Graham Nelson won the Eskimo Pursuit Trophy at Blackpool & Fleetwood Yacht Club in fine style sailing a 470. This was the first 470 victory since Laurie Smith won here some years ago – not bad company then. Posted on 2 Jan 2005
