Setley Cup and Seahorse Trophy - Preview

The weather looks fine for the Annual Junior Model Yacht Racing on Setley Pond near Lymington after the move of venue to the Salterns in 2010 due to the frozen pond. Reasonably fine weather is forecast with a fresh South Westerly wind should give ideal conditions although the lack of rain has lowered the water by probably more than 12 inches, meaning that some of the deeper keeled craft may experience some difficulties.

This event has tight rules with a maximum hull length of 660 mm and no stored energy of any sort and where the craft may only be released by children under 18 years, occasionally a blind eye has been known for fathers with children under 2 in their arms releasing the model.

We are expecting at least two International Jury members to be present to see fair play and it seems likely we could expect around 30 craft for each of the two classes although probably 50% have not yet been designed and building will not commence until after Christmas Dinner!

Racing starts at 1100 hrs.
