The Warwick Turtle, supported by The Daily Telegraph and Red Bull

The ‘Turtle’, the University of Warwick Sailing Club’s annual team racing event, became bigger and better this weekend with 16 teams competing in a total of 119 races.

At the start of Saturday’s racing Draycote had a fickle northerly breeze and by the end of the first day’s round robin West Kirby, Nottingham, SCUM and Birmingham 1 were proving to have the advantage over the remaining 12 teams. That evening however Birmingham proved their worth on and off the water, winning a rowdy boat race at the ‘Turtle's’ renowned Saturday night social.

Sunday’s racing involved the 16 teams being divided into Gold & Silver fleets with the top 4 moving into the semi-finals. The finals were played off between Birmingham 1 and SCUM (runners-up last year), with Birmingham coming out on top; the losing semi-finalists, West Kirby and Nottingham, were both awarded third equal. The winner of the Silver fleet was the Glasgow team. Huge thanks go to Race Officer Ralph Tingle, Draycote Water Sailing Club and their office ladies and bosuns, the umpires Richard Thompson and Martin Smith and of course the University of Warwick Sailing Club members for their help and hospitality. Not to mention the support of The Daily Telegraph and Red Bull.
