Nominations for the Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards are now open and British yachtswoman, Dee Caffari, heads up their list of female high achievers in the world of sport in 2011. The awards invite anyone to nominate the sportswoman that has impressed them the most with their performances over the past 10 months.
In 2009, Caffari won the Helen Rollason Award for Inspiration at the Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards lunch and previous winners of their main award include Paula Radcliffe, Pippa Funnell, Denise Lewis, Dame Kelly Holmes, Zara Phillips and Victoria Pendleton.
In her relatively short sailing career, Caffari has achieved a great deal. In May 2006, Caffari became the first woman to sail around the world non-stop against the prevailing winds and currents. In February 2009, Caffari secured a double world first by crossing the official finish line of the Vendée Globe yacht race after 99 days to become the first woman to sail solo, non-stop both ways around the world. On completion of the Barcelona World Race in April 2011, Dee was thrust into the record books for a third time as the woman that has sailed non-stop around the planet more times than any other in history.
Make your nomination here. Nominations close at midnight on Monday 31 October 2011.
