Cadet Open at Stone Sailing Club

Nick Sutton & Josh Bennett from Corinthian Otters are this year’s winners of Stone SC’s Open Meeting. Sailing 8844 Nasty Tern, their six points from three races gave them a four point margin over second placed Alex Corby & Robert Keen from Fishers Green/Alton Water in 9000 White Stuff with Sam & Ben Barr, also from Corinthian Otters in 9027 Whatever third with twelve points.

24 boats from Alton Water, Corinthian Otters, Fishers Green, Thorpe Bay, Waldringfield and the host club assembled for the two-day meeting over the weekend of 17th/18th September 2011. Six races were scheduled with one discard kicking in with the fifth race. The event also served as a qualifier for the RYA East Zone squad and as the penultimate round of the Mailspeed Marine Eastern Area Series.

Only two races were possible on Saturday, which were sailed in a strong wind. Race 1 saw Nick & Josh victorious and followed home by Sam & Ben. Lucy & Lainey Terkelsen from the host club in 8571 Blu Calula were third, with Waldringfield’s Sam Yale & Harry Chatterton sailing 9369 Out Of The Blue fourth, Alex & Robert fifth and Hattie Ayre & Cally Terkelsen also from the host club in 8420 Tantrum, sixth.

Nick & Josh repeated their victory in Race 2 and went home overnight leaders. Alex & Robert were second, with Sam & Ben third and Lucy & Lainey, fourth. Josie Gummer & Aaron Chadwick from Fishers Green in 8415 Challenger were fifth, with Hattie & Cally sixth.

Sunday saw one race sailed in light airs before the wind died. Thorpe Bay’s Alex Warrington & Laura Lloyd sailing 8541 Stress led the fleet home, followed by Josie & Aaron, Alex & Robert, and Nick and Josh. Alex Page & Richard Townley from Alton Water in 8521 Gnat were fifth, with Hattie & Cally registering their third sixth place of the event.
