On Saturday 17 September Ripon SC hosted a meeting for the Yorkshire and Humberside Youth Sailing Association. The meeting was generously sponsored by Mill Garages who are working closely with Ripon Sailing Club to promote junior and youth racing under the club's Volvo Champion Club banner.
A great entry of 25 boats (comprising 12 Laser Radial, 1 Laser, 1 Feva, 3 Topper and 8 Tera dinghies), gave the RO a challenge with the start line and the wind sadly swung just before the start of the first race allowing some of the fleet, who picked the right end of the line, to lay the first mark very easily. The wind conditions didn't allow the Lasers to get far enough ahead of the large Ripon SC Tera contingent, and when the handicaps were applied Max Nicholson's Laser (Ulley SC) was closely followed by Ana Paterson and Alistair Scott, both from the home club and sailing RS Tera Sport dinghies. Oliver Groves (Laser, Beaver SC) was fourth.
After lunch the RO moved the start line to the northern end of the lake and got a fantastic line right across the wind with a great beat to the western extremity of the water. The Lasers made the most of the breeze with Chris White (Laser, Beaver SC) taking line honours from Nicolson. Em Stevenson (Laser, Pennine SC) was 3rd. The 3rd race followed much the same course as Race 2, and this time it was Nicolson who got the gun, followed home by White and Stevenson.
A great day's sailing was had by some very talented youngsters and Mill Garage's generosity ensured that everyone went away with a prize.
