Crewsaver Mirror Nationals at Restronguet Sailing Club

by Steve Wilkinson 27 Aug 2011 09:58 BST 20-26 August 2011

With the weather proving difficult on the final day of the 2011 Mirror Nationals, and time running out to get any racing in on the day, the breeze finally filled in under some dark thunder clouds allowing PRO for the event Ian Fraser sufficient time to get one race underway before the final day time limit at 14.00hrs.

With only a two point difference between Nigel Thomas / Milly Moss and Rory Mackenzie / Harvey Martin at the top of the table, and the second round of discards due to kick in to make matters more interesting, the fleet left the shore with the sound of distant thunder in the background.

With the wind dropping off as the race progressed the fleet became spread, but Rory and Harvey found space, wind and speed to safely hold off the attentions of Ed and Beth Grey and Tom Cosier and Niamh O'Neill who finished second and third respectively allowing him to leapfrog Nigel Thomas / Milly Moss and claim their first Mirror Nationals Championship. Second in the Championship were Ed and Beth Grey and in third place were Miles and Rory O'Dell.

Single-handed champion was Tim Lachlan-Cope.
