Green Comm readies for Americas Cup World Series

by Green Comm 6 Aug 2011 09:44 BST 6-14 August 2011

Green Comm Racing announces its crew for the first day of the America' Cup World Series event in Cascais, Portugal and sets a stepping stone to the long path leading to the 2013 America's Cup in San Francisco.

Luca Devoti, Sports Team Manager, commented on Green Comm Racing’s crew: “This is my crew for the opening day of the event and I really trust these guys. They are proven winners, passionate and strong. Last night they kept working on the boat until one o’clock in the morning with such dedication that made me proud to be here with them. The team is forming and these are crucial days for Green Comm Racing. A group of winners is becoming one totally dedicated team. This is the chance of our lives and we will do all it takes.

For the first day we will have two-time Olympic medalist Vasilij Žbogar at the helm. Four-time European Tornado champion, Kostas Trigonis, will be the wing trimmer. Anthony Nossiter, Olympic, America’s Cup and Volvo Ocean Race sailor, will be at the runners. Current world Finn champion, Ed Wright, will be at the halyards and daggerboards and Pete Cumming, Extreme Sailing Series champion, will be at the sheets.

Our first crew rotation will be Javier de la Plaza, former 49 world champion and Volvo Ocean Race sailor, and Alex Muscat Diaz, member of the Spanish Olympic sailing team. Paolo Cian, match racing expert and Shosholoza’s helmsman in the 32nd America’s Cup, is our match racing advisor, while Paul Hobson, CEO of North Sails One Design, is our sail coordinator and coach.

This is just the start of a long journey and we could only sail twice on our AC45. We feel privileged to be here in this first event that marks the beginning of a new era where our green philosophy can show the path to a better future.”
