Cadet World Championships at Kuhlungsborn, Germany - Day 6

With victories in both of Thursday’s races, Maciej Kaminski & Szymon Ostrowski in POL 9755 have assumed an eight point lead in the Rugen Fisch World Championships. Overnight leaders Ilya Polyschuk & Ilya Gaydaenko sailing RUS 9811 could manage only a fourth place and a twelfth and lie second on 39 points, while Anton & Julian Sasson sailing AUS 5509 hold on to third place with 70 points. Dawid Kania & Kacper Madon in POL 9512 have leapfrogged Oleksandr Isarov & Andriy Kalinchuk sailing UKR 9251 into fourth place on 82 points, with the latter eight points behind on 90. GBR’s Andrew Smith & Rory Burdock in 9243 have moved up five places from eleventh to sixth.

Four GBR teams now feature in the top ten compared with one overnight. Andrew & Rory’s sixth in Race 9 and ninth in Race 10 were their best results since the first day of the competition. Ben Hazeldine & George Bridge have a one point deficit to seventh placed Santiago Ureta & Tomas Peluso in ARG 9479. Alex & Lucy Corby in GBR 9000 scored a tenth and a fourteenth which propelled them five places to ninth and Matthew Currell & Theo Smith scored the best GBR result of the day with a fourth in Race 9 which helped lift them into tenth place.

Two further races are scheduled for the final day and the start time has been brought forward to 1030.

GBR teams now fill eight of the top ten places in the Hanse Youngster Promotional Regatta, including all the podium spots. In today’s three races, Jack Wilson & Ryan Wilkinson in GBR 735 Pintail scored a first, a second and a sixteenth to take the lead on countback from Oliver Palierakis & Robert Keen in GBR 7495 Salt Air. Each with 39 points, they have only a three point gap over third-placed Amir & Aliya Jannaty in GBR 9319, who hit consistency with a second and two third place finishes. In fourth place with 48 points lie Anna Oczkowska & Patrycja Galazka in POL 9847, four ahead of Mary Henderson & Lulu Knott in GBR 8561. Jules Greeve & Victor de Rispaimsel in BEL 8519 are sixth with 76 points.

One more race is scheduled for the final day.

P&B Cadet UK Nationals at Brixham overall
