Cadet World Championships at Kuhlungsborn, Germany - Day 5

Following Tuesday’s lay day, a further three races were sailed on Wednesday in both the Rugen Fisch World Championships and the Hanse Youngster Promotional Regatta. With eight races completed in each event, the second discard has now kicked in and the events are on schedule.

In the Rugen Fisch World Championships, Ilya Polyschuk & Ilya Gaydaenko sailing RUS 9811 scoring 23 points hold a six point lead over Maciej Kaminski & Szymon Ostrowski in POL 9755 with Anton & Julian Sasson in AUS 5509 third with 50 points. Oleksandr Isarov & Andriy Kalinchuk sailing UKR 9251 lie fourth with 56 points, Dawid Kania & Kacper Madon in POL 9512 are fifth with 71 points and Anna Shcherbyna & Marta Novikova in UKR 9731 are sixth with 71 points. GBR teams fill five of the top twenty places with Ben Hazeldine & George Bridge sailing GBR 9047 Touchwood in seventh place, followed by Andrew Smith & Rory Burdock in GBR 9243 Blue String Pudding in eleventh.

Honours were shared across Wednesday’s three races between Ilya & Ilya, Maciej & Szymon and Mateusz Wisniewski & Zofia Walczak in POL 9803. Best GBR performances of the day were an eighth and ninth respectively in Race 6 for Ben Hazeldine & George Bridge in GBR 9047 Touchwood and Ben Binmore & Sophia Cockell in GBR 8440 Black Otter, a seventh place for Alex & Lucy Corby in GBR 9000 in Race 7 and a tenth place for Andrew Smith & Rory Burdock in GBR 9243 Blue String Pudding in Race 8.

GBR teams continue to dominate the Hanse Youngster Promotional Regatta, filling the top four positions and seven of the top ten.

Event leaders are Oliver Palierakis & Robert Keen in GBR 7495 Salt Air with 19 points, two ahead of Jack Wilson & Ryan Wilkinson in GBR 735 Pintail. In third place lie Amir & Aliya Jannaty sailing GBR 9319 with 25 points and Mary Henderson & Lulu Knott are fourth in GBR 8561 Bad Influence on 32 points. Anna Oczkowska & Patrycja Galazka in POL 9847 lie fifth with 34 points with Jules Greeve & Victor de Rispaimsel in BEL 8519 sixth with 44 points.

Wednesday’s first race was won by Michael Horne & Oliver King sailing GBR 9013 Purple Ronnie, with Jamie Proffitt & Tom Collyer in GBR 8846 second and Oliver & Robert third. Victory in the second race of the day went to Amir & Aliya, with Anna & Patrycja second and Jack & Ryan third. Jack & Ryan went on to win the final race in a nail-biting finish with Martha Haslam & Jack Collings in GBR 8291 Aslan and Amir & Aliya, who finished third.

A seven-year joinery apprenticeship lead to being a world champion dinghy builder Ronald William Beasley was born on the 31st January 1931 and grew up in Bradley, Bilston in the Black Country.
