Two members of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s Youth Sailing Squad (‘the Sharks’) have been selected by the Hong Kong Optimist Dinghy Association (HKODA) to represent Hong Kong in July’s OCBC 21st IODA Asian Optimist Championship 2011.
Joining Sophie Tulloch (age 12) and Clara Krantz (age 13) in their first major international regatta, will be eight other Hong Kong youth sailors, each of whom qualified for the Hong Kong National Team based on their results at the Hong Kong Optimist National Championships (December 2010), HKSF International Regatta (October 2010) and HKSF Festival of Sport Regatta (May 2010).
Up to 200 competitors will take part at the Championships in Singapore from 22 to 30 July. Last year’s event drew entrants from 20 countries.
RHKYC’s Sailing Development Manager, Richard Knight will travel to Singapore with the two protégés.
“The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club is very proud to have Sophie and Clara representing Hong Kong in Singapore. This is something the youth sailors have been working towards and we hope the girls’ experience will benefit everyone in the squad.” said Richard Knight.
The IODA Asian Championship is organised by the Singapore Sailing Federation under the authority of the International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA).
