The 2004 Emsworth Sailing Club 0.1 Square Metre Race was blessed with perfect conditions, with a light West-South West breeze.

As the 25 entries prepared to launch, the fleet was presented with a tactical quandary - go for a shorter distance to the finish from the left end of the line, or clearer air at the right end, on the hastily rearranged pontoon?

However, a few seconds after the start, it was clear that lightweight construction was the key, with Annabel and William Acres' flyer showing the fleet a clean pair of heels from the far left of the line.

The left end of the line also favoured Natasha Halliday, who achieved second place for the second year running. Meanwhile Leo Patterson's craft came in a clear third, despite initially being buried at the start.

As usual, a good time was had by all entrants, and over £150 was raised for the Lavender Trust.
