Portuguese Optimist Championship at Tavira - Day 1

The first day of the Portugal Youth Championship taking place off the coast of Tavira Island was accomplished with success.

The weather conditions for the 3 races were marked by SW winds of about 14 to 18 knots. The leading sailors are Miguel Cruz, from the Naval Club of Cascais, followed by Tomás Martins, from the Sport Algés and Dafundo and João Maria Prieto, also from the Club Naval of Cascais.

The 113 young sailors are competing for the top places at this regatta and to ensure a place at the Optimist European Championships, taking place in Tavira next month and a place on the Optimist World Championship, which will be held in December 2011 in New Zealand.

This is the 4th event of a run of six National, International and Iberian championships and regattas organized by Tavira Sailing, which in 2011 will make this tourist destination in the Portuguese Sailing Capital.
