RS200 SEAS Open at Bexhill Sailing Club

by Tim Murray 6 Jun 2011 16:44 BST 5 June 2011

Bracing was the polite description of conditions at Bexhill Sailing Club last weekend as the RS200 SEAS moved into open water. With a force 4-5 NE blowing with stronger gusts and some huge shifts the race team considered the format carefully and laid the course closer inshore than in previous years and out of the line of the strongest gusts coming down the Coombe Haven valley.

Three races were run back to back which tested stamina as well as boat handling skills. The committee boat based race team got all the races away cleanly an the ten boats enjoyed some fast and furious reaches as well as some crews brushing up on their swimming techniques.

Nick Charles and Roz Allen (Netley) dominated with a clean sweep of wins. Matt Giles and Rory Davis (Weirwood) were equally consistent in 2nd place. Christian Humphrey and Noelle Vidal took 3rd and Tim Ellis and Lucy Preston (Broadstairs) 4th. Attrition then started to have an affect as only these 4 boats completed all 3 races and other crews used a DNC as their discard and headed back to the beach and the welcoming arms of the large beach party. A good turnout given the forecast and conditions but everyone having had some exhilarating sailing and thanking the race team and host club for a well organized and run event.
