With a one point margin, Alex & Lucy Corby took first place in the Weymouth Indicator. A first, a second, a fifth and a sixth proved just enough to give victory to the Fishers Green/King George pairing sailing 9000 White Stuff from Andrew Smith & Rory Burdock from Royal Lymington/Frensham Pond in 9243 Blue String Pudding and Abigail Croft & William Palierakis from Frensham Pond/Fishers Green sailing 7274 Wave Rider, who both finished on 15 points.

With strong wind forecast for throughout the day, the Race Officer restricted the second day’s racing to the Gold Fleet, who completed three back-to-back races. Nick Sutton & Hattie Sexton from Corinthian Otters sailing 8844 Nasty Tern led the first race at the windward mark and maintained their lead to the finish. Royal Torbay’s Ben Binmore & Sophia Cockell in 8440 Black Otter took second having passed Andrew & Rory on the second beat, who went on to finish third. Ben Hazeldine & George Bridge from Frensham Pond in 9047 Touchwood progressed well in the latter stages to take fourth place, with Abigail & William fifth and Alex & Lucy sixth.

The second race of the day went to Alex & Lucy, who recovered from 11th at the windward mark. Abigail & William were second with Ben & Sophia, third. Fourth place was taken by Andrew & Rory, with Parkstone’s Matt Currell and Theo Smith fifth in 8997 Executrix. Sixth place went to Matthew & Ben Shorrock from Frensham Pond in 8352 Master Mariner.

Nick & Hattie scored their second victory of the day in the final race. Having rounded the windward in ninth place, they made their move on the final lap, holding off challenges from Matthew & Ben and Ben & Sophia, who finished second and third respectively. Abigail & William took fourth place from Alex & Lucy, with James & Henry Marsh from Royal Lymington sixth in 9240 Nitro.

With only nine races completed out of eighteen scheduled for the Indicator Series, a further Indicator will be held on the weekend of 2nd/3rd July 2011 to conclude the selection of the team to represent GBR at this year’s Cadet World Championships in Germany.
