Kingsmead Sailing Club Open Day – Sail for Free

by Rob Fairhurst 11 Apr 2011 08:07 BST 14 May 2011

We hold our annual Open Day on Saturday 14th May from 11am - 4pm. Last year, it was quite an eye-opener to see youngsters, new to sailing navigate across the lake with barely a mishap. Their natural instinct to steer and balance the boat put the adults to shame.

Anyone, from age eight to 80 can have a go; you will sail under the watchful eye of an experienced helm.

There is a selection of boats to choose from, so you could go out as a family group or just with a club member. If you are sufficiently confident, you can helm yourself.

Bring a change of clothes and suitable footwear and there is no need to book.

We serve light refreshments, all day.

Bring this article with you and your name will be entered into a draw with the chance to win free sailing lessons or free membership for 2011. And remember, its all free!

The Club

The club is located on a very attractive 50-acre lake with a modern clubhouse, a well-stocked galley and bar, changing facilities with showers, a spacious car park and enclosed boat compound. The club has a very friendly atmosphere with an active social calendar throughout the year.

Learn to Sail

The club is an RYA Recognised Training Centre. If you enjoy the Open Day, you can sign up for one of our training sessions. Training is available to all club members and non-members; juniors cover RYA stages 1-4 and adults RYA levels 1 and 2. The courses are normally scheduled on Saturdays in June and September.

Looking for a New Club

Our racing programme is designed to suit all tastes, with handicap and pursuit races on Sundays and an individual handicap race on Wednesday evenings in the summer.

We have a significant fleet of Solos plus Comet Versas, Trios and Grads as well as Picos, Toppers and Optimists for the youngsters. Several fixed and floating jetties provide easy access to the water without the need to get wet and allow launching and docking in any wind direction!

We host one of the Thames Valley Solo opens.
