A light, shifty wind greeted 9 visitors and 17 local boats for Littleton SC's Solo open meeting on Sunday 27 March. It was a day for having a good first beat and then riding your luck, with each race producing a different winner, always the boat that got clear in front first.

In race 1 it was Richard Cambrook who got away, race 2 saw Mike Dray pull into a substantial lead that he held to the finish, and in race 3 Jon Jowett caught a patch of breeze on the far left hand side of leg 2 and pulled away, eventually taking the gun.

Richard won the event with a second to count, Jon came second counting a third, and Mike was third overall counting a fourth. With Littleton boats taking all three top spots, it was clearly a day when the conditions dictated that local knowledge counted.

A seriously breezy event amongst the beautiful Trossachs hills In the lead-up to this event in the HD Sails Scottish travellers series I was worried that sailing on an inland loch amongst the beautiful Trossachs hills in mid-summer meant that we would struggle with light and shifty winds from every direction. Sunshine in Italy after a storm hits on the day before I awoke to the unfamiliar roar of an engine turbine as it throttled up, the local ferry utilising a hydrofoil system that, from the estimated weight of the beast, required as much thrust as the flux capacitor could give her to hit 88 miles an hour.
