Try Sailing Event at Melton Mowbray Sailing Club in April

by John Milner 20 Mar 2011 16:49 GMT 2 April 2011

A £10,000 grant from Sport England means that Melton Mowbray Sailing Club can now offer even more people the opportunity to go sailing this year.

An extra five dinghies have been purchased to support Melton Mowbray Sailing Club’s learn-tosail and training activities, and to celebrate the club is hosting a launching event. This will take place on Saturday 2 April, together with a FREE Try Sailing event.

“Our funding officer, Paul Gregory, has worked hard to win this funding support” said the club’s RYA Training Centre principal Bill Ridlington. “It means that the club can now accept an extra 10 adults/older teenagers for enrolment on our spring and summer courses. We are looking forward to showing people what we can offer at Melton Mowbray SC on Saturday 2 April.

“There has been an increase in people wanting to learn to sail in recent years and anyone from the age of eight can learn to sail with us. You are never too old to experience the joy of using the wind to power a boat, hear the sound of water lapping against the hull, be outdoors and see some of the wonderful wildlife on your doorstep. You don’t have to be fit and athletic; sailing can be as demanding or relaxing as you want it to be.”

The FREE Try Sailing event runs from 2pm and anyone can come along, have a go on the water and enjoy a day of family fun. Or alternatively anyone is welcome to come down to the club on a Sunday morning to have a try out on the water. The new boats are just waiting to be used by you!

Melton Mowbray SC’s spring course starts on 5 April and runs for approximately 10 weeks on Tuesdays (from 6.30pm), with a mix of practical sailing and theory each evening. The autumn course begins in mid August, and finishes at the end of September.

Melton Mowbray SC has been teaching people to sail for more than 30 years, and continues to promote the sport in the Melton Area. The club is a recognised RYA Training Centre meaning its courses conform to the highest standards of quality and safety in the world.

For more information about how to get involved in sailing visit the club’s website or contact the Chief Instructor, Ian Gamble on 0116 2665052.
