Royal Southampton Yacht Club Winter Series - Day 8

Victory for X Parrot, Starspray, Green Kestrel and Hyper The eighth and final race of the Royal Southampton Yacht Club’s Winter series was held on Sunday 28th November. A north westerly breeze of around 12 knots was blowing at the start which increased up to 20 knots. The Race Management Team set the Committee Boat on the Fawley shore.

Class 1 IRC saw Tim Octon’s Corby 35 Njos take line honours but victory on corrected time went to Mike Garvey’s X332 X Parrot with Njos second and Andrew Percival’s Corby 33 Big Boys Toys II third. Overall in the series, Mike Garvey’s X332 X Parrot won by 3 points from Njos with Big Boys Toys II third.

Class 2 IRC saw Starspray take line honours and victory on corrected time by one second from Chris Broadbent’s MG 335 Maybee III. Third was Simon Thew’s J/80 Blue in J. Overall in the series Maybee III won by 4 points from Steve Sault’s Sigma 33 Hooligan with Starspray third.

Class 3 Club class, saw Andrew Campbell’s Bavaria 44 Faze 3 take line honours but victory on corrected time went to Jon Woolgar’s Westerly GK 29 Green Kestrel. Second place went to Peter Armitage’s Sweden 38 Cosmic Dancer V with third Sylvie, Anthony Huggett’s Feeling 326. Overall in the series Green Kestrel won by six points from Richard Walker’s Micro Gem Urchin II with Faze 3 third.

In the Multihull Class, first to finish and first on corrected time was Mike Wigmore’s Firebird Hyper. Second was Ben Goodland’s Raider 30 Roo with third Simon Forbes’ Dragonfly 800 Scooby III. Overall in the series, James Stewart and Lucy Kennedy’s Dragonfly 920 Ngalawa won by ten points from George Burn’s Dragonfly 920X Force X with Hyper third.

XOD Captain's Cup at Cowes Week day 5
The promised easterly kicks in just in time After a day off for no wind and a wonderful party sponsored by Hiscox and James Hallam insurers, quite a few of the fleet were grateful for a delay today. The short series has now concluded, with nine of the 12 scheduled races completed Today dawned bright and sunny with a northerly breeze that faded during the morning as the land heated up, but a stable sea breeze failed to materialise, forcing racing for all classes to be abandoned. XOD Captain's Cup at Cowes Week day 3
