The 86th Anniversary Falmouth Division Championship took place over three days under the RCYC burgee. The 13 competitors enjoyed close racing throughout the series. Race officer Ron Medlyn had difficult weather conditions, with strong winds and swell on Friday when racing took place in the Carrick Roads. Shipping movement also hampered the setting of the course for the second race. On Saturday the fleet started in the Bay with the wind dying after the first round. A move to the Carrick Roads enabled the second race to be held when the wind strength increased. Sunday dawned with poor visibility and rain and the last two races were staged in the Roads and all were pleased to finish just after lunch soaked but happy.

The Championship went to Simon Carter inV18 Polly who sailed an impeccable series with his crew Roger Ford. Line honours were shared within the fleet with no less than five different winners for the six races.

The Falmouth Division of the Sunbeam Class started racing here at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club in 1924. It is pleasing to welcome a number of new owners this year giving much needed new blood for the future. The Class is vibrant and thriving. An experimental boat constructed in GRP built on the Sunbeam lines was launched in the Solent in July. This is being trialled at present to see if it can be raced fairly and evenly with the traditional wooden boats and it is likely to be sailed in Falmouth next year. The final decision on acceptance or rejection of the revised construction is unlikely to be settled until the end of next season.

In the meantime the wooden boats racing in Falmouth are testimony that proves that excellent Sunbeam one design racing in Falmouth is going well.
