Laser 2000 Nationals at Sidmouth Sailing Club - Overall

by Chris Jordan 1 Sep 2010 20:02 BST 22-27 August 2010

The final day of the Laser Performance sponsored (with support from Noble Marine, Fotoboat and SailLaser) Laser 2000 2010 National Championships at Sidmouth Sailing Club provided absolutely superb sailing conditions: A sparking sea in the sunlight; winds that varied during the day between force 2 (light enough for the light weights down wind) and force 5 (great beats for the heavy weights); very accurately laid courses providing beats / runs of well over a mile; start lines square to the wind, so the fleet spread down the line and the leaders at the first mark came from both ends and the middle; despite the black flags for every start the well-behaved fleet meant no-one had to be sent home early; a pod of dolphins to distract the sailors as we planed into the leeward mark; and 4 great races to round out the championships.

At the beginning of the week, it looked doubtful as to whether we would get any racing in, but by the end of the week we had a final day of great races, a new National Champion, 7 out of the planned 10 races completed, and most importantly a fleet of smiling sailors!
