50th Scorpion Nationals at Looe Sailing Club - Day 3

by Tom Jeffcoate 3 Aug 2010 21:35 BST 31 July - 6 August 2010

The promised Northerly never materialised and instead the 80 strong fleet were greeted by 6 – 10 knot south westerly winds. They even created some waves for a bit of surfing practice although the presence of the on the water jury had several people playing statues whenever they came near!

Race 4 – sponsored by Yachts and Yachting

Allan & Chris Tyler had a return to winning ways today and dominated race 4 from start to finish. Behind them a close battle ensued with Dave Wade & Steve Hall emerging in 2nd. After a moderate first beat Chris Turner & Ben Raynor pulled through to take 3rd ahead of Tim & Sarah Parsons. The biggest improvers of the fleet were Kevin Gosling and Max Hayman who improved 30 places to 5th, just ahead of championship contenders John Mursell & Nick Keast.

Race 5 – sponsored by Harken

A couple of slight incidents with people being a bit too keen to get past the gate boat led to a couple of recalls but the delays just meant there was time for the rain to pass. When the race finally began Dave Wade & Steve Hall, obviously keen to make up for yesterday’s performance, hit the front and kept it to the finish. They were chased hard by Tim & Sarah Parsons who took 2nd while Allan & Chris kept up their bid for glory with a 3rd. They now lead by 5 points from John Mursell & Nick Keast and 10 points from Dave Wade & Steve Hall.
