Saturday Series Race 14 (24 July)

16 competitors enjoyed a lovely day and very close racing in 16-19 knot south-westerly breeze. A medium length leg to windward to Pennington mark was followed by a run during which the fleet spilt into two closely bunched groups. The fleet was then sent to the Isle of Wight shore and then downwind before commencing a tricky leg across the ebb tide to Jacksons.

X-Ray (Robin Balme) timed his croosing perfectly and led comfortably from Xoanon (Paul Fisher) followed by Lone Star (Stuart Jardine). The fleet then sailed two 2 windward legs and 1 spinnaker reach before heading for home to finish up-river at the Club line. At the turning mark at the river mouth XL (Ben Paton) just got through into 3rd place.

Wednesday Series Race 14 (28 July)

Lymington XOD sailors had a windy race on Wednesday - a Westerly Force 6 with wind against tide. The first leg was a wet beat to Hurst Buoy followed by a long run back to Tanners where X Ray took the lead and held it for the next few legs.

This was a good test for boats before Cowes Week - 14 boats came to the start but only 9 finished the Race, there was no damage but some skippers were concerned about preserving their boats for Cowes Week which is the National Championships for XODs.

There are 88 Xs enterered with 21 from Lymington and the others coming from Poole, Yarmouth, Hamble, Cowes and Itchenor. The XODs is by far the largest class and the Captain's Cup will be hotly contested with several World Class sailors competing.
