XOD Alastair Easton Trophy at Royal Lymington Yacht Club

by Fenella Lees 8 Jun 2010 17:06 BST 5 June 2010

On Saturday 5th June some 29 XODs from both Royal Lymington Yacht Club and Royal Solent Yacht Club (Yarmouth) enjoyed a challenging afternoon of racing off Pylewell for the Alastair Easton Trophy which is competed for each year in memory of the late popular yachtsman and former XOD sailor.

The series comprised three short races held over a windward/leeward course each lasting about 40 minutes. The first race was a rather fluky affair in very light easterly wind conditions and won by William Norris in “Beatrix”.

The wind then died altogether meaning a long postponement until it filled in again from the south west allowing the patient race officers to get the remaining two races underway.

Race 2 was won by John Morrow in “Annex” and race 3 by Rory Paton on “Diana”

The overall winner of the series however was Ian Sanderson guest helming “Lone Star” with “Annex” in second place and “Diana” third.

Despite the difficult wind conditions the event was a challenging afternoons sailing in beautiful sunny conditions much enjoyed by all. Particular thanks go to the race officers who managed to get the races sailed in the very variable wind conditions.
