Yachting World Dayboat Championships at Salcombe Yacht Club

by John Murrell 4 Jun 2010 22:37 BST 29 May - 3 June 2010

Salcombe Yacht Club played host to 20 Yachting World Dayboats for their championship Week from 29th May to the 3rd June. Testing conditions through the week kept all the competitors on their toes, however with the exception of the Long Distance race, the series went off on schedule.

The races on Sunday and Monday ran alongside an open Meeting for both the local Salcombe Yawl and Solo fleets which meant that there were over 120 boats racing, this combined with the strong breeze meant that boat handling was to the fore!

James Hewitt and Rachel Bullingham began as they meant to continue with wins in the first four races, only in the final race did he allow his father Peter, crewed by Alanah Honey a sight of the line first! Racing was very tight for the whole week and a jolly Prizegiving concluded the week.
