On Saturday the 10th of April, Stoke Newington West Reservoir held a Topper and Topaz open event. The competition was part of the RYA's Centre Club Coaches scheme, aimed at promoting racing at a young level within London.

It was a sunny day with a fairly steady F3-4 north easterly with some wind shifts due to the breeze rolling in over the surrounding buildings, the reservoir being located in North London.

21 competitors turned up from Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre, Thamesmead Sailing Club, and West Reservoir.

The day kicked off with four races in the morning. Oliver Scott from Docklands Sailing Centre snatched an early lead, followed closely by his sister Imogen Scott, with third place constantly in contestation.

After lunch Oliver managed to increase his lead, landing him with a convincing first position. In second place came sister Imogen, and in a close third came Charlie Stannard, also from Docklands. The first West Reservoir sailor was Lilly Bracken, snatching fourth place.

All sailors completed 7 races in the good weather conditions and finished the day with a prize giving of sailing gear, and all staff and volunteers from the three centres got a nice tan.
