Soling Inlands at Kielder Water Sailing Club

by soling.com 12 Oct 2004 11:03 BST 2-3 October 2004

The Soling Inland Championships were held at the Kielder Water Sailing club over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd October.

The last event of the 2004 UK HARKEN Soling Series was once again well attended with 12 solings taking part. This was despite an awful weather forecast suggesting gales building over the course of the weekend.

Saturdays sailing took part in winds of up to 38 knots!! Evan so, most of the boats managed to complete the majority of the races.

George Barker (having just returned from his coaching duties at the Para Olympic games in Athens) and team won the first 2 races, with Michael Preston and team taking the other 2.

Thankfully, the winds decreased on Sunday providing near perfect 10-15 knot winds from the West. It was a mixed bag of results on the Sunday with wins for George Barker, Mike Preston and Soling newcomer Nick Stratton on board Peter Hewitson’s GBR 160.

The event was eventually won by George Barker and team in GBR 47. Hamish Loudon and Gary Richardson topped The UK HARKEN Soling Series with 35 points each. Hamish being awarded the title by virtue of his superior result at the British National Championships.
