21 March 2010
Ripon Sailing Club’s 2010 season got off to a flying start on Sunday 21 March with a great breeze, sunshine and the added excitement of 2 new designs taking to the water. The Spring series at the club is split into fast and slow handicap fleets, with the split between the fleets pushing Enterprises and anything faster into the fast fleet.
Chris Mark’s newly acquired Heatwave was launched for the first two races, which were won, one apiece, by the Lasers of Phil Cawood and Mike Eggleston. The Heatwave drew many admiring glances from the bank and was subject to close examination by more than one helm when it was on shore, with lots of 'what is it' type questions asked. Mike Saul launched his RS100 for the final race, and provided further interest with members keen to see how this latest RS creation handled. It clearly went well as it took line honours!
The slow fleet had excellent racing too, with Bernard/Ellie Clark taking the first race in their Mirror, Chris Wright taking race 2 in his Streaker and Ian Smith taking race 3 in his Solo.
With over 20 boats competing it was a great start to what promises to be an exciting season at the club.
