Laser Open at Maldon Yacht Club

by Graham Hoy 5 Oct 2004 17:28 BST 2-3 October 2004

Maldon Yacht Club hosted a Laser open meeting for the first time in many years. The first race was held in very windy conditions. Dan Dixon, a former member of Maldon, won in convincing style followed by Stuart Cook and John Crook. Only 5 boats entered the second race due to the harsh conditions, but then the wind disappeared from a gusty force 5 to a gentle breeze with Dan Dixon winning followed by John Crook and Mathew Pickett.

Luckily Sundays bad weather forecast did not emerge until later in the evening and a good days sailing was achieved. Dan Dixon, who pulled out a lead from the fleet, won the third race. Graham Hoy was second and John crook third. The final race was controversial due to at least four boats being over the start line and only three going back. The race was won by Dan Dixon, making four wins out of four in the series. J crook was again second with the rest of the fleet racing for third, which was narrowly taken by Jack Mills.

Overall the event was a success with good racing and an entertaining evening of a curry and cocktails
