On 26th September this Speed Sails sponsored Cock of the North Event attracted a Yorkshire Ouse club record number of enties with eleven home boats and nine visitors.

The weather was a wild South Westerly and gusting to Force 6. Two capsizes and a general recall caused chaos on the start line but we were soon off to a blistering beat up to the Ship Inn about three quarters of a mile away, round the windward mark and a fantastic run back to the club house, dodging capsized boats, cruisers, swans and our two rescue boats who were assisting where necessary.

Richard Pryke and Sue Roberts (Ripon) stormed home leaving Neil Ashurst and John Whittaker (Yeadon) Second with Dave and Sheila Berger (Hornsea) in third place.

After an excellent lunch Andy Bayliss was out for revenge in the second race pushing Neil Ashurst into second place and Richard Pryke into third.

In a very close 3rd race Richard sailed through to win, asserting his dominance over Andy on the River. David Spencer and Jamie Kerslake were third making them the lst home boat over the line.

Before racing started Chris Biscomb Jnr. and his sister Christine named our new rescue boat EMIRIS II in memory of their late parents to honour their outstanding services to the club over many years. Thank you to them for travelling up to York to perform this ceremony.
