On Sunday 26th September, cloudy skies, variable North Easterly winds and hot bacon butties welcomed the 14 Enterprises, (including 6 visitors), to the Elton Enterprise Open in Bury.

In the first race Alan and Reg Johnson from Southport SCYC led from the start, closely followed by Phil Snewin and Tom Williams from Chester. Tony Woods and Mark from Etherow were in third place. Wind shifts and wind hollows ensured the chasing places changed frequently. On the last lap Phil and Tom eased pass the Johnsons to win the first race.

After a hearty stew, which we hoped would slow down the fast visitors the second race began with Tony Woods and Mark leading after the first lap, followed by Phil and Tom. Both were passed by the Johnson,s at the end of the third lap. Places changed yet again on the fourth and final lap leaving Phil and Tom the winners.

Inspired by the visitors the racing at the rear of the fleet was fierce with lots of shouts of “starboard” and “water” and the occasional bump. Graham Steel and Phil Robinson of Elton came a creditable 6th in each race and the rest of the Elton sailors fought out the places with great passion.

Having mastered the vagaries of Elton the finishing order for the last race and the event was Phil and Tom, the Johnsons and then Tony Woods and Mark.

Thanks to the OD and his team who set challenging courses and all the Elton helpers and visitors who made this a memorable and friendly day.
