by Lucy Harwood 30 Jul 2009 09:45 BST 31 July - 3 August 2009

The Ecover Extreme 40 Sailing Team will be joined by a host of sporting athletes and adventurers for Round 3 the iShares Cup, which kicks off this Saturday 1st August from Cowes, Isle of Wight. Olympic and Commonwealth 400 metre medallist Iwan Thomas will join the crew for racing off the Green in Cowes for the practice day on Friday 31st July, and on Monday 3rd August artic adventurer and Mike’s fellow Champagne G.H.Mumm Cordon Rouge Club member Ben Fogle will step onboard as the 5th man for this extreme challenge.

The new website www.ecoversailingteam.com is now live where you can catch up on the latest action from the Ecover Ecover Extreme 40 with interviews, live updates, images and video from the team. You can also follow all the action live from the water through the Ecover Sailing Team Twitter feed at twitter.com/ECOVERSAILING . You can also support the Ecover Sailing Team in person over the weekend (1st – 3rd Aug) from the new spectator viewing area on Egypt Point, the iShares Cup Race Village offers panoramic spectator views of the racecourse and is free to the public.

Training for the Ecover Sailing Team began this week on the waters off Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Cowes is a unique location for this circuit, as the crews will have to deal with both a sea breeze and strong tidal conditions making life on the water anything but plain sailing. Last year’s event saw some of the most exciting racing of the season, as the crews battled strong winds and a choppy sea state, “Its going to be some fast and furious racing,” commented Mike Golding from the dockside in Cowes. “The last two days of training have shown us just how challenging the conditions will be here in Cowes Week. It will be some crash and burn racing out there. It has the potential to be very exciting, anything could, and I am sure will happen!”
