Cadet Week at Waldringfield Sailing Club - Preview

by Andrew Nunn 6 Jul 2009 12:33 BST 3-7 August 2009

Waldringfield Sailing Club have once again secured sponsorship for their annual Cadet Week regatta from some of the biggest names in dinghy equipment and clothing. Gill and Harken UK – plus local dinghy chandlery Seamark Nunn - are providing support for this excellent junior sailing event which takes place on the River Deben in Suffolk from 3rd – 7th August 2009.

Geoff Harris, WSC’s Cadet Squadron Leader, commented “Waldringfield Cadet Week has been running since the 1950s and is now a major event on the Cadet Class calendar. All levels of sailor are welcome as we cater for both the top flight racing teams in the Gold Fleet, plus up-and-coming and novice teams in the Silver Fleet. There’s also excellent racing in the Laser / Laser Radial fleet consisting mainly of ex-Cadets who have outgrown their old boats!”

The event format is for five days racing for the Gold Fleet with both a race series and individual trophy races (generally 3 races per day). The Cadet Silver fleet participates in two days of training from qualified RYA coaches followed by three days racing when they join the Gold Fleet on the race track. The generous sponsorship from Gill & Harken means that there will be some top notch prizes to be won as well as the usual silverware.

There is a fun-packed social programme throughout the week with plenty to keep both junior sailors and parents entertained, including Beach Games, BBQ, Disco and a Quiz Night! Camping facilities are available at the Sailing Club (limited space). For more information please email www.waldringfieldsc.com
