Tacktick’s wireless Maxi instruments will be setting sail on the Mumm 30 Val Thorens in the 2009 Tour de France à la Voile starting today from Dunkerque.
Val Thorens sailed to victory in the amateur class in the 2007 and 2008 editions of the prestigious French regatta. With a 4th place overall in 2008, they will be hoping to improve their performance this year, where they are entering the “pro” class for the first time.
The Mumm 30 is kitted out with Tacktick’s full Maxi racing electronics package including wireless displays fitted at the mast and in the cockpit.
The Tour de France à la Voile is a month long regatta touring the coasts of France with eleven port stops. Now in its 32nd year the 2009 event will see 23 boats taking part.
In addition to the wireless Maxi displays, Val Thorens will be fitted with Tacktick’s wireless Vertical Wind Transmitter and an NMEA interface to wirelessly receive their GPS data on the Maxi displays. The boat also uses Tacktick’s Remote Displays to control the instruments and display essential racing data in the palm of the hand.
With weight being a critical factor on the boats, Tacktick’s Maxi range, with no wires to run through the boat or up the mast and super-thin, lightweight displays, offers the lightest package on the market as well as being ultra quick to install and set up.
Alexis Littoz-Baritel tactician on board Val Thorens, commented, “This is the third year that we have been racing with Tacktick electronics and we are very happy with their performance. The Remote Display is a huge advantage for me as tactician, giving me instant access to the boat data wherever I am on the boat. The ‘autoleg’ feature is also a great innovation, with all the essential data on just one screen. Distance racing with the NMEA feature is so much easier as it updates the COG constantly with such little setup time. And because we are regularly starting in areas with big tides we regularly use the “START” feature to give us greater ability and confidence to hit the line on the gun.”
