Contessa 32 Open at Itchenor Sailing Club

Contessa 32s converged on Itchenor Sailing Club from along the south coast over the weekend of June 13th and 14th for the annual Contessa 32 Open Meeting. Close racing was enjoyed by 11 crews in mostly light and variable winds.

On Saturday the Contessas were set two Olympic style courses in Hayling Bay. Hamble based Blanco won both races and owners Ray Rouse and Richard and Peter Vanner were able to fully enjoy Saturday evening supper at Itchenor Sailing Club.

Sunday’s race was a longer affair with the fleet sent round the navigation buoys south of Hayling Island. Wind shifts of up to 40 degrees had a significant bearing on the result of this race. The leading boats from Saturday’s racing were caught out. Fortunately for the Blanco crew a 9th place was just good enough to win the series and the Contessa 32 trophy. Itchenor’s Cosantes, John McCann and Anna Gillam, moved up to 2nd place from 3rd overnight. Simon Porter’s Equator from Hamble was one boat to benefit from the wind shift and a 3rd place on Sunday gave them 3rd overall.

Overall Results:

1st Blanco, Ray Rouse, Richard Vanner, Peter Vanner, 11pts
2nd Cosantes, John McCann, Anna Gillam, 12pts
3rd Equator, Simon Porter, 12pts
