Cadet Open at South Cerney Sailing Club - Overall

by David Elliott 14 Jun 2009 22:57 BST 13-14 June 2009

The RO’s decision to hold four races on Saturday proved wise, when the wind dropped as this morning’s fifth and final race got underway. Overnight leaders Alec Frost & Will McMahon in 8402 led at the first mark and went on to take their fourth victory of the event. Only Will Kennedy & Rhos Hawes in 8539 stayed with the local pairing and took second place. Third place went to Lewis Frost & Matt Sim in 9382, with Zoe McBride & Jack Hardie in 9047 fourth.

This completes the third round of this year’s Ian Craig Trophy, with the remaining Open Meetings at Fishers Green and Barnt Green to be held in the Autumn.

Tony Smith, Cadet Squadron Captain, thanked the Race Officer and all those who had helped stage the event. He then introduced David Lynall of sponsors Lynall Boats who presented the following trophies:

The Turtle Trophy for winning the Open Meeting to Alex Frost & Will McMahon, 8402 V3
Second place in the Open Meeting to Will Kennedy & Rhos Hawes, 8539 Genesis
Third place in the Open Meeting to Zoe McBride & Jack Hardie, 9047 Touchwood
The Wiltshire Trophy for first South Cerney boat to Alex Frost & Will McMahon, 8402 V3
First All-Girl South Cerney boat to Zoe Smith & Emily Bralee, 8556 Moonraker

The Smiley Award to Joseph Butterworth & Joseph Chadwick, 8847 Lethal Menace
The Tail-End Charlie Award to Sian Hughes & Thomas Pitman, 9232 Blue Rondar

Tony thanked David Lynall for their ongoing support of youth sailing at South Cerney. Alastair (Buzz) Keck, a partner of Lynall Boats sailed a Cadet at South Cerney in his youth and is a member of the training team at the club. The Cheltenham-based chandlers also sponsor Open Meeting winner Alex Frost, who is a member of the Lynall Boats Youth Sailing Team.
