Solo Open at Frampton on Severn Sailing Club

Moving this Western Area Event from the end of the season to the first open of the year did not work for FOSSC. There was wind on the Saturday and the Monday, but not on the Sunday.

After a postponement waiting for wind, the racing eventually got under way. The gentle wind from the SE allowed two local sailors, Brian Kitching and Ken Elsey to creep up the bank, leaving Colin Newton stranded in the middle of the lake. After a few place changes in the first two places on wind shifts, Brian Kitching managed to finish well ahead of Ken Elsey who was ahead of Colin Newton.

The next of the back to back races allowed Colin Newton to get ahead with a good a lead. Many of the other contenders well back in the fleet. Local wind knowledge allowed to Ken Elsey to move up through the fleet onto the tail of Colin Newton, but in the dying wind Colin was able to maintain his lead from Ken with Geoff Silcock in 3rd place.

The lunch break was taken ready for the back to back races in the afternoon. After a ¾ hour wait for the wind the OOD called it day with the final result based on the 2 races sailed. Thanks to Mike Tully and Laser team for setting courses under trying conditions.

Overall Results:

1st Colin Newton, 4930 (Staunton Harold SC) 4pts
2nd Ken Elsey, 4619 (Frampton on Severn SC) 4pts
3rd Brian Kitching, 4932 (Frampton on Severn SC) 8pts
4th John Daniels, 4040 (RYA) 9pts
5th John Kilgour, 3962 (Frampton on Severn SC) 10pts
