Prestwick welcomed 66 competitors to its youth regatta on 20/21 September, sponsored by South Ayrshire Sports Council, Sunbird, Bosuns Locker and www.tartanmarine.co.uk. There were Scottish Travellers series fleets for Toppers, Optimists, Radials and Lasers, plus Development fleets for Toppers and Optimists. Light breezes on Saturday suited the younger sailors, and all enjoyed the sunshine and moderate breezes on the Sunday.

The main Topper fleet was the biggest class, with 27 competitors, and it was won by Lorenzo Chiavarini with a perfect scoreline of five wins. Andrew McGowan took second. Another eight Toppers competed in the Topper Development fleet, won by David Abraham.

In Optimists, Ross Stanley-Whyte was the victor, and with this win Ross took the 2008 Optimist Scottish Traveller series. In the Optimist Development fleet, Rachel Mawer took four race wins for a comfortable victory.

Moray Clark won the first two races to set him on the path for a class win in Radials, while sailing veteran Pete Malcolm took a sprightly five wins for a perfect scoreline to win the Lasers. This win clinched another Scottish Grand Prix series for Malcolm, to add to his collection garnered over thirty years of Laser sailing.

A backdrop of curry, Tennent's lager and Mark Taylor's excellent quiz Those of you following the report from day two will recall I was rather underwhelmed by the forecast for racing on day three. Unsurprisingly actual conditions defied the forecasters and we had wind into the top of the teens. Posted on 29 Aug 2017
