Junior Open at Shropshire Sailing Club

by Paul Dutton 8 Sep 2008 12:00 BST 6 September 2008

The previous night’s flooding and terrible race day forecast didn't stop people travelling from Wales and Cheshire for the annual Shropshire Sailing Club Junior Open.

24 boats launched at Whitemere, under a north-westerly Force 3, for the six race series.

Defending champions Robert and Rebecca Morris showed their form by taking the first two races in their Feva, with George and Edward Shelley close behind them, also in a Feva.

After four races the Morrises were still leading, Crystal Truman had sailed into second in her Pico and Lottie Rapson was holding on to fourth in a Pico. They were separated by Alex Jardin, from Shotwick SC, in a Topper.

A full six races would allow one discard, so the leading positions were up for grabs as the fleet went out in building winds for the final pair of races.

At the end, 11 points covered the first six, but Robert and Rebecca Morris retained their title with very consistent sailing.

Congratulations to them, race officer Rob Shelley and his team for a fine day’s racing, and to the younger competitors who did well in challenging conditions.

Overall Results: (all SSC unless stated)

1st Robert Morris & Rebecca Morris
2nd George Shelley & Edward Shelley
3rd Alex Jardine (Shotwick SC)
4th Tom Endacott
5th Lottie Rapson
