Footy Open at Cotswold Model Yacht Club

by Mark Collyer 20 Aug 2008 11:43 BST 17 August 2008

Sailors from far and wide gathered on the 17th of August for Cotswold Model Yacht Club’s Footy open meeting.

Class stalwart Trevor Thomas justified the long journey from Derbyshire by taking the trophy but not before he was pushed by Gloucester’s John Birnie who took second overall. Gary Sanderson made the journey up from Kent with his daughter Christine and they finished third and fourth respectively.

Lawrence Hartley suffered the trauma of seeing his boat sink after the aerial plug came loose and it took the skills of the rescue boat skipper and Gary Sanderson to recover the boat from seven foot of water; an operation that was not aided by the “helpful” suggestions from the shore. David Wilkinson and the race team did a superb job and kept things moving along nicely and the competitors were unanimous in their desire to return to the club again.

Overall Results:

1st Trevor Thomas, GBR147, Mistralette, 15pts
2nd John Birnie, GBR180, Micron, 23pts
3rd Gary Sanderson, GBR13, Slimtrekker, 31pts
4th Christine Sanderson, GBR113, Duck, 77pts
5th Ian Apps, GBR33, ‘507’, 88pts
