Cadet Nationals at Royal Torbay Yacht Club - Day 3

by David Elliott 19 Aug 2008 20:37 BST 16-22 August 2008

Arthur Henderson/Matthew Currell (8561) retain their overnight lead following a further two races, although their margin over second placed George Ayre/Nick Sutton (8542) has been reduced from seven points to two.

Race 4

The fleet launched into a strengthening wind and rolling sea and on reaching the course area, it was decided to restrict racing to Gold fleet competitors. Tim Carter/Henry Stone (9374) led at the Windward mark from Jonathan Kimber/Jonathan Van Ingen (8440) in second, Josh Flack/ Naomi Flack (8434) in third and George Ayre/Nick Sutton (8542) in fourth. A close race ensued between the leaders and it was not until the final beat that Tim and Henry re-established their lead to take the gun from George and Nick, with Josh and Naomi in third. Overnight leaders Arthur Henderson/Matthew Currell (8561) finished fourth.

Race 5

From the Committee Boat end of the line, Alex Young/Jack Hardie (8513) led the fleet into the Windward mark, with John Page/Alexander Page (8251) in second and Will Kennedy/Loni Lilienthal (8539) in third. These positions were maintained until the final Leeward run, when a squall went through the course. A capsize ended Will and Loni’s hopes of a top-three finish and Alex and Jack took first place from the Page brothers with Arthur Henderson/Matthew Currell (8561)in third.
